Wisdom or Something Like It

There is a great big lie floatin’ ‘round the world. A lie surrendered to, passed on from mother to daughter and father to son and grandparents to grandchildren who are forced to listen. And from stranger to stranger in good morning coffee shops and airport bars, it is there to place the value in our aging, to soothe the great letdown in our eventual end. Wisdom is not the gathering of knowledge without judgement.  It is the simple accumulation of rationalizations caught in the fading amber memories of a life yawning for meaning; clapping against all the the new and terrible unknowings. Everyone wants what is without wisdom - what is new - but we cling to all the wisdom that makes us safe inside our skins. The wisdom that doesn’t touch our worth or understand our regrets.
